Are dental x-rays safe?
X-rays are used to diagnose potential oral care issues that cannot be seen with a simple oral exam before they become a major issue. X-rays can save you money, unnecessary discomfort, and maybe even your life.
At St. Anthony Village Dental Care, we use digital dental x-rays, known as radiographs which are an essential part of any dental care treatment plan. Digital radiographs allow us to reduce the amount of radiation used by up to 80% as compared to traditional radiographs. They also allow us to see the image immediately rather than wait for processing, and we can adjust aspects of the image to maximize diagnostic potential.
The frequency of getting X-rays of your teeth depends on your medical and dental history and current condition. Advances in dentistry over the years have lead to a number of measures that minimize the risks associated with X-rays. Fortunately, the dose of radiation you are exposed to during the taking of digital dental X-rays is extremely small.
We will customize a plan for you for frequency of radiographs so that enough information is available to provide optimal dental care but never more than necessary.
