I have lost a filling. How do I know if it's an emergency?
I have lost a filling. How do I know if it’s an emergency?
No filling lasts forever. Restorations, also called fillings, all have a point at which they will break down or fail. The loss of a filling may be due to a number of factors. It can be the result of tooth wear from grinding or clenching or bacteria leaking around the edges of the fillings and causing decay. If a tooth is left untreated, a lost or chipped filling could lead to the need for a crown and/or a root canal and possible loss of the tooth. Maintaining regular dental visits allows Dr. Osterbauer to detect potential problems with fillings before they fail. Regular appointments help dental professionals to identify and monitor the status of fillings before you realize there may be a problem.
